Frequently Asked Questions
Everything you need to know about creating custom LEGO® brick mosaics with PhotoToBrick.
Is PhotoToBrick free to use?
+
Yes, PhotoToBrick is 100% free to use. You can upload photos, generate mosaics, preview instructions, and export your Bill of Materials without paying anything or creating an account.
Are my uploaded photos safe and private?
+
Yes. All image processing takes place directly in your web browser. Your photos are never sent to any server, database, or third-party cloud. When you close or refresh the page, all image memory is cleared.
What kind of photos work best for a LEGO® mosaic?
+
Close-up portraits, bold logos, high-contrast images, and pets with distinct features work best. Photos with clean backgrounds and good lighting make color matching much more crisp.
What is the difference between Plates and Bricks?
+
A standard LEGO® brick is 3 times taller than a plate. Most classic mosaics use plates or round tiles for a flatter, lighter wall art, while bricks can be used if you prefer thicker depth.
What does the 'Optimize' piece mode do?
+
The 1x1 mode uses strictly single stud pieces (e.g. 1x1 round or square plates). The 'Optimize' mode merges adjacent pixels of the exact same color into larger bricks (e.g. 2x2, 2x4), reducing the total number of parts to place and cutting assembly time.
Where can I buy the required LEGO® elements?
+
You can download the Bill of Materials (BOM) in Excel format from our Instructions page and order individual parts on BrickLink.com or through the official LEGO® Pick a Brick service.
